Kohler Confidant EZT750

I have a Cub Cadet Pro Z 100 with the Kohler Confidant EZT750 EFI engine. The machine is, of course, a month past warranty. I bought it in June of 2021. I have roughly 150 hours on the mower. The engine on this machine is crammed onto the back and they put a remote oil filter on it.

I have developed an oil leak that left a puddle underneath the mower in my shop. At first, I thought it was hydro, but as I investigated further, it looked like it was coming from the engine (right below the engine is full of oil). As I said earlier, this engine is crammed in there making it impossible to see anything. But, I think I have it narrowed down to the remote oil filter adapter plate.

Without disassembling the machine (the rear tire will have to come off, the control panel will have to come off, side tank will have to come off along with a couple of brackets) I would like to know if anyone knows how those adapter plates are sealed and held to the block. Is there a gasket in there? Is it an o-ring? Is it bolted on or does it screw on somehow? I'm not super impressed with how Cub Cadet did the remote filter. The lines come off that adapter plate with straight ends and then the rubber hoses have to make a hard turn which looks like it puts undo stress on that adapter plate.

Thanks!
Del

I tore my mower apart and will answer my question in case anyone else needs to know. On the Kohler EZT750, if you have a remote oil filter, the adapter plate that mounts to the engine (which converts from an oil filter to 2 oil lines) is just screwed onto the oil filter stub on the engine. There is an o-ring on that cap. My cap was able to move with very little resistance which is why it was leaking. On this mower, the way they crammed the remote filter in there, I think I know what happened.

The rubber lines come off that cap pointing straight out. The way this mower is designed, they then have to do a pretty hard bend because the plate they used for the remote filter is right there. I think that with that stress on the lines, it was putting pressure on the cap, and after 3 years of vibration, it was able to back itself off enough to leak. The o-ring was flat and pretty hard so I found a matching one from our local hardware store. Upon reassembly, I did put some Loctite on the threads to try to prevent this in the future and I tried to route the lines differently to try to avoid that stress, but it is a tight space to begin with.

If the problem surfaces again, I think I will look at putting a solid pipe off the adapter cap so that it comes out enough to clear the fuel pump, and then put 90-degree elbows on and attach the rubber lines to those. I would also move the remote filter higher also since the rubber lines are a little longer than needed.

I too have the same issue.  Did you have to pull the motor?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did not remove the engine. Not sure which way is easier, honestly. On the Pro Z 100, there is a control panel you need to remove first. This is where the key, hour meter, etc are at. Then the black housing comes off. That holds the one fuel tank in place so that gets removed next. Then I took the bracket off that the tank sits on. There were a couple other brackets that needed to be removed also.

Then there is a piece of steel that wraps around the sides and front of the engine that sucks. In order to remove it, you technically have to repeat everything you just did on the other side also. Or, you get irritated with engineers and you bend that steel enough so you can at least get to the cap. That’s what I did.

    Hope this helps.
