Grease zerk

I just recently purchased a Bolens mower with a Tecumseh engine I noticed a grease zerk on the side of the engine under the carburetor.Does anyone know the purpose or what this is for I am intrigued

    NEVER seen that.. Sounds aftermarket.

    I am having trouble uploading the picture it is on the side under the carburetor just to the right of the governor shaft

    It is right above the fill plug 30 in the hole of the governor plate

    Ok, #30 is the oil drain plug. 
     
    The internal oiling system is a simple "splash" of oil.
    There is no reason for a grease fitting.
     
    There shouldn't be any zerk fitting.  
    I'd just make sure it's not leaking engine oil and ignore it.
     
    Obviously, make sure your oil level is correct...
     
    Someone didn't have a clue what they were doing.

    I understand splash system I wonder if a plug goes there and someone just used a zerk to plug it for kicks I haven’t tried to remove it

    The cam shaft is in that general area but internally, 2-3" , away from that fitting.  
     
    There's nothing there that would require greasing...  
     
    Perhaps if the governor and it's shaft that passes thru the block, 
    they'd do that to block the hole. But again, that fitting isn't near the governor..
