That needle (solenoid), needs 12 volts to OPEN and ALLOW FUEL TO FLOW.
It's supposed to help with stopping back firing when shutting down.
I've found just down shut down immediately from WOT , let it idle a couple of seconds
and it won't back fire.
With that said, I'd use the original carb, original solenoid BUT CUT the needle off-So
it does not affect fuel flow. With that mod, you won't need 12 volts, don't have to worry
about it sticking closed, etc....
Don't "pull" the needle (it may leak), but with the needle extended cut it as short as possible
(Dremel, cut off wheel, etc).
