CV-16s spark advance module

I have a Kohler Command CV-16s 43514 with the SAM module, my module recently went out and it would not advance the timing past idle. I bought the aftermarket market DSAI 12 584 12s unit off EBay for $20, the engine runs but pops going from idle to full throttle, to be expected for the price. I tried a friend’s SAM and my mower run perfect, of course he had to get it back. I have two scrap CV-15s engines, can I run the CV-15 flywheel and the CV-15 coil on my 16 to do away with the spark advance module? I noticed the key way degrees are different between the CV16 and CV-15. I’ve read somewhere installing a regular non SAM coil would advance the timing. Looking for options

I don’t have a proper answer for you but my Kohler cv25 had the smart box die. I just ripped the smart crap off and installed two standard ign coils and it’s worked fine since.

I installed a CV-15 flywheel and matching coil and it works great.
