Vlv60 Tecumseh Alternator Air Gap

Hey Guys...

I am trying to get this old Areins up and running again. It has an electric start that I would like to use. Before I order a new battery for it I tested the alternator on it while it was running and I get no voltage. I had the coil and alternator off and air gapped both with a business card. I can't find anywhere how to gap that alternator.

I can image that the alternator could be bad...there is not much to it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I see the starter motor but don't see any charging parts(alternator, etc).  Can you advise
what part #, from above, it is?

If your referring to the air gap on the coil, that does not charge the battery..

    Advise.

BTW, some machines with electric start DON'T have a charging system.
You have to charge the battery manually, occasionally.  You should be able to get MANY
    STARTS on one charge..

Ok, I see it now (never saw one on that engine ever).

You should (and may have) be able to gap it to .010" using a business card
(which I think you did) and moving it with the slotted holes in the unit.

With that done, no power coming out of it?

Yep...gapped with business card and when I start the engine and test the output there is 0volts.

I don't know how to test it but it sounds like it's toast...

And that website shows it's not available..

I'd put a battery in it, use it and just re-charge as needed.
The newer batteries (Not acid) are a bit smaller, just as strong and are less
expensive than the lead acid ones...

    Is this on a generator?

No it's on a mower. The battery that is in it is a Panasonic 12v4vp. What kind of battery are you talking about?

Sealed lead-acid (SLA) absorbed glass mat (AGM) rechargeable battery

I've bought two of these, one placed on a larger approx 12HP generator (I repaired and gave to my sister).
The other I have as a spare for working on customers machines:

Mighty Max YB9A-A 12V 9AH Battery Replacement for Xtreme High Performance XT9A-A

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/384362323478

***And pay attention to the battery terminals.
Some have simple slip on terminals, others have regular "BOLT on" terminals  (1/4 20 ), like ^^^..

And I have no interest in the company or battery... Just personal experience.

Thanks for the link. I will need a battery.

I do get some voltage out of the alternator but it is 7 dc or 17 ac when i change the mide on the multimeter. I did some reading...these alternators put out AC and then rectify it to dc with a diode. I follow the red lead and I do not see anything that looks like a diode. There is a white plastic fuse holder...the kind that holds an old glass fuse. I wonder if there was a tube like diode in there. Of course I cannot find a wire diagram or parts for this on line.
