    A BRAND and MODEL # would help..
     
    There is a filter in the tank, that should be the first to check.
     
    As for next checking/cleaning, we need to know what it is...

     Oh, how do I get to the filter mentioned in the oil reservoir?



    Open the filler cap and peek inside.  Fish the filter out with a coat hanger.
    Filters about 3/4 long, maybe .5" in diameter.  Remove it from the hose and use brake
    cleaner to spray from the inside out.  
     
    Now you can pull off the chain side cover.  You may see a thinnish black hose(not sure how it's routed).
    You want  to make sure that's clear of crap, brake cleaner again..  
     
    If still not happy, spray brake cleaner from/into the inside tank hose while activating (chain OFF)
    the unit.  Brake cleaner and if you have compressed air is your friend..

    Also, on your bar.  There may be a small hole where the bar bolts to the saw.
    That hole leads to the track where the saw blade rides.  If that's clogged, you won't get oil..
     
    Always clean the bar with a sharp object (dental pick) where the chain rides of debris.
    And of course where the small hole flows to...

    I am still working on finding the filter and removing it.
    Also, I have not been able to find a new, replacement filter anywhere.
    It seem like they don't even want to talk about it

    Oil is leaking out the bottom of the chainsaw, it may have a cracked case.

    If you dump the oil, clean the exterior, then fill with gasoline, you'll see real quick if you have a cracked case.
     
    Obviously, be super careful doing this..

    I emptied the oil and filled it with gas.
    That worked, thanks, Scott!
    It eliminated the possibility of a cracked case, no cracked case.
    However, it did reveal 2 small holes in the bottom of the case that looked like someone had drilled them 
    with a small drill bit and the gas was coming out of those 2 holes. I cleaned them with brake cleaner and
    when they dried I patched them with epoxy.
    I have no idea of how the holes got there but my son had the chain saw for about 5 years and I will ask 
    him about those.
    What I do not understand is how oil or gas would get down to the bottom of the inside of the chain saw to be leaking out of those holes.

    How does the oil get to the chain? Is there a pump or is it just gravity fed?
