Alot of forums people come and ask questions, get their answers and dissappear.
I just want to update to show my appreciation.
It was a pressure washer that had been thrown away. It looked pretty good so I grabbed it. My wife was less than impressed but I digress. It appeared to have a new carburetor on it and the only thing that was missing was the air filter element and cover.
I think the previous owner tried to fix it by installing a new carb but that didnt work.
I got it home and looked it over, I did a comp. test on it and it was below 60 psi. I ordered up the parts, $85 worth and tore into it. With the help of the link that was provided it was pretty straightforward. I split the sump from the cylinder and inspected everything. The cylinder and the piston all looked great. No scoring or burns on either of the piston or cylinder. I cleaned everything up and gave the cylinder a light hone with some emory paper. I checked the ring end gaps and found them to be well within spec. No piston needed or rings.
I then reassembled and cracked on to the head and valves. I cleaned all mating surfaces and focused on the valves. The intake looked OK but the exhaust was pretty fouled up. Probably the cause of the low compression. I lapped the valves and set the gap to spec and reinstalled everything.
Upon completion when it came to start I gave her fresh fuel and a new spark plug, a good rip on the cord and she fired right up. I let her run for 5 min or so and let it cool down. Rechecked the compression and it was 115 psi. So I guess it's a wrap. No mention of re torquing the hed bolts in the service manual. But I will do it anyway.
Thanks again I appreciate it
Chris
