Kohler engine...dry fuel filter?

My Craftsman tractor which has a Kohler engine, heats up and stalls out (see other post).  I changed coil, plug, gas cap etc.  I finally re-changed the gas filter since I installed the wrong one.  The tractor now runs for 25 minutes and then sputters.  If I quickly shut off the blade, the mower catches and continues to run.  If I leave the blade engaged, it stalls out.

The new fuel filter is clear and when the tractor stalls I do not see any gas in the filter.  The "paper" appears to be wet but that is it.  Normal?  Do I need to blow out the lines again?

TY!

Yes the fuel filters can appear to have no fuel and stiill be fine as they can develop an air pocket. The I have seen with a few gravity fed systems is that fuel lines and carburetor fuel are reaching 140+F and the fuel starts boiling causing the fuel system to develop an air lock.  On some Kohler engines especially the Courage single Kohler came with a metal heat shield for the carburetor. It helps but sometimes even the fuel line has to be heat shielded. All this is due hot exhaust heat is being blown over the fuel system. Part of the problem is also the fuel blend as some distributors are slow to change to a Summer blend which is less volatile.

This problem of heating also affect other brands of engines too. I personally have seen MTD and Kawasaki engines to develop this problem.

It also doesn't hurt to recheck the fuel tank for blockages.

Thank you!  If I get a piece of sheet metal and put it behind the filter and line.  Would that help?
