316.731972 Craftsman String Trimmer needs legs !

So I volunteered to try to fix this Craftsman String Trimmer 316.731972 . It started out simple enough, pulled on cord it went around and around and did nothing ! So, simple just get a new pull starter .......right ! WRONG !
So I'm finding out that these are very expensive pieces of junk !
Anyhow it was given to him by his brother who used the cordless drill with that adapter to start this regularly ! Which I think is what killed the Dog Legs  ! Or that's what I'm calling them !
So I got the correct part, took off old part and reinstalled, pulled cord same problem ! Well that's because those centrifugal dog leg things have broken off ! Probably because of that drill starting !
So I looked further into replacing that fan looking thing with the legs and finding you can't ! It's only attached by a pressed fit collar fitting ! You can buy the whole top and, don't want to do that !
Has someone come up with a fix for this ? Maybe drill out fasteners that are still there and install 2 new dogs legs and rivet them in ? HELP !

'So I'm finding out that these are very expensive pieces of junk !' You answered your own question. Unless your time is free you will have more into this offshore junk than it is worth. The parts you need don't appear to be available.

As Roy noted individual parts that should be available is not for these 4 cycle MTD trimmers. What worst is that 98% of the ones that come into my shop are sent straight the recycling center.

They simply do not oil the piston and cyclinder properly leading to early death of the trimmer as customers are not even will to buy the parts. If you want a good 4 cycle trimmer get either a Shindaiwa C4 system or a Stihl 4 Mix system trimmer.  Not as much experience with the Shindaiwa trimmers but have repaired a lot Stihl 4 mix trimmer. Most times it is just carburetor problem with these.
