Kawasaki FR691v

Hi Guys
Just bought a Husqvarna Z248F zero turn with a Kawasaki FR691V engine, machine has 240hrs in it. Bought it used and seems to be in pretty good shape

When I went to guys house it was already warmed up and noticed it was sometimes tough to start back up. Thought that weird but seem to run perfect, plenty of power

Got it home and now cold, started it and had a cloud of smoke!!! I said OMG I got F—d!!!

So started pulling it apart

Did compression test both cylinders at 140-150
Did a leak down test and 1 cylinder at 25% and other at 30% which between compression and leak down seem good

I’m starting to think it’s a fuel problem???
Plugs are BLACK!!!!

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

    Looked inside carb and it’s very dirty oily where what appears to be a some sort of breather going into the engine.
    Is it possible something is wrong there blowing oil into the carb?
    Site won’t allow me to upload a picture of the inside of the carb

    Yes it can be a plugged breather.
     
    But first the compression is too high for an engine with an ACR. Adjust the valves to spec and retest.
     
    Also the leak down test is high for this engine should be no more 10-20% at the most so you may have a leaking head gasket or rings and cylinder issues.

    I cleaned out the breather and changed plugs and running perfect
    I also cked my friends perfectly running machine (same model machine/engine) his had the same readings with compression
    Just saying on these machines plugs and breather solved it nothing to do with compression to high or leak down not in spec.

    Not disputing the results. But normally most engines with ACRs usually have starting only compressions ranging from 70-100 psi to keep the starters from being overloaded. And ACRs become in-effective with larger valve clearances. In your case you probably got the stronger solenoid shift starter.
     
    Also any engine that have a leak down that reaches over 40% is a candidate for rebuilding with normal leak down being a maximum of 20% with 10% being normal. I do use a modified low pressure leak down test when it comes to an OHV engine as I can disable the valve train and can test the entire piston stroke looking for lower cylinder problems. You be surprised how engines test good at the top of the stroke and bad in the middle to bottom of the stroke due cylinder wear.
     
    I recently had a Tecumseh engine that smoked under load. It tested 20% at the top of the stroke and 80% at the bottom. When I pulled the head and measured the cylinder it was severely ovaled at the bottom of the stroke. That engine ran fine other than the smoking under load.
     
    I also recommend using 15w50 Kawasaki full synthetic with zinc additive motor oil.
