Engine model numbers and ignition coil matching

I have a 14hp Kawasaki FC420VC 70870.  Any info on how to track down an ignition coil for this engine would be helpful.  Just installed a coil from jackssmallengine.com listing the FC420VC **** in the comaptibility listing.  It will not generate the voltage to create a spark to the plug.  The primary and secondary resistance readings are slightly out of spec but enough so that it won't work I guess. Kawasaki must have generated specific ignition coils for these different model numbers?  I have double checked the air gap and the spark plug gap at .030" and they are on the mark.

Did you replaced the ignitor? They are more common to fail than the ignition coils as is spark plugs. There is also the kill switch that must open in order to generate a spark.

As the model number FC420V is fine but need the two letter/two number spec number to check parts but if I remember correctly all the FC420V used the same coil.

I don't know what you are referring to when you mention "ignitor".  I will try replacing the spark plug....didn't think of that as an intermittent failing part....figured it either works or doesn't.  The Kawasaki FC420V-**** series does take different ignition coils.  The one I ordered was for the wrong model even though it fit and generates a good shock, just not what it takes to fire the plug.  Once I understood how Kawasaki lists their engine model numbers (thanks to Jack's phone techs) I looked up the coil again and did find my exact model number that brought up a different part number for the coil.  I had been trying to use the serial number instead of the model number so could never find the exact number in the listings.  I ordered that first coil based on as much of the serial number characters as I could match and then just figured they would all be the same coil.....wrong!  Expensive lesson.  Now I hope it wasn't just the plug as you mentioned ;-)

I have the electrical schematic of the FC420V-ES16 and it does not show anything beyond the ignition unit (coil + ?...molded unit).  There are no points or "ignitor" shown.  Where would this "ignitor" be likely be located?

Now you see why we need both the model number and spec number which you finally gave. Kawasaki here has updated the older coil setup to a coil that incorporates the ignitor instead having it separately. THe correct coil for your setup is 21121-2086. In the diagram I pull from Kawasaki CEPC show both setups but only the 21121A link will pull up the correct PN.

Hopefully this only means newer units has this CDI coil and that I can still replace the 21119 ignitor on older units.

I have a FC420v HS09 engine.  Replaced the coil with the called for 211212086.  Still no spark.  I dont have a spec sheet for the correct resistance readings.  The primary and secondary resistance readings  seem to be in range of other coils I have used.  I have a new good plug and the coil air gap is spot on,  the flywheel magnet is also good.  I need help!!!
