Keeps Breaking Fly Wheel Keys

Hello,
I have a Craftsman mower with a 5HP Tecumseh engine. The engine model number is 143.975016. The mower model number is 917.387140. The fly wheel key broke when it hit cement and I replaced it. It broke again half way through mowing the lawn and again before finishing. I noticed that the fly wheel nut was loose when I replaced it again. I thought I had it tight. I have seen many posts where people had this same problem because they didn't tighten it to the proper torque setting. I am trying to find the torque setting.  Where can I find it? Does this sound like it's the cause of the problem or could it be something else.

I set to to 40 foot pounds and put everything back together. Now we’ll see if that gets it.

The 143.975016 is a Tecumseh TVS 115 - 61065D

If TVS 4 cycle engines used a cast iron flywheel. Note service has Flywheel Nut (Cast iron) but I believe they are referring to the flywheel itself as being cast iron.

Torque specs 550 in-lbs (46 ft-lbs) (64 nM) per the service manual.

Otherwise if Aluminum then Scrub is right on the torque spec.

If you torque to only 40 ft-lbs it will shear again if it is a cast iron flywheel.

I hit the fly wheel with a screwdrivers and it sounded like aluminum. I then scratched its surface and it looks like aluminum. I left it at 40 ft-lbs and it’s working fine now.

You might need to know it is much easier to check the flywheel with a magnet. Magnets don't stick to aluminum but do stick to cast iron something you should have learn in school science class. Now of the magnet will stick to other magnets.
