Stihl MS180 Chainsaw Ignition Coil

HI,
I'm based in UK

I have a MS180 Chainsaw , only been used a few times, purchased OCt 2018 and so out of warranty just.

Look like I have an ignition coil issue , no spark, changed spark plug.
NOT sure how to test ,

I'm having issues finding the part, Stihl just recommended a local dealer , and they said probably to look at £100+ !!!!!!
So may get rid of the lot and buy EGO battery kit.

Anyway,
The part i'm after is an ignition coil
on the one i have it has
1130 1309A
MC3 1130 180
UC123 Y

But I cant seem to find one , most places i email , seem to have lots of different types but not the one i want !!!!

Not sure how I attached an image, as upload did not work

Any help in locating a supplier or how to test if it is faulty would be great - Thanks

Wayne

Vision Spares in Shaftsbury Dorset lists p/n 1130 400 1302 for less than half that price. Did you try it with the wire to the switch disconnected?

No - it just goes to a bit of brass which is NOT connected to anything when ON .

I managed to get a bit of a spark , but had to be in the dark to see.

Stripped out the carb , and cleaned all the diaphragm etc, cleaned out the fuel tank and fuel filter.
    Still not starting

I have a picture of the cables , not sure how to attach

The price was for them to take in and look at to repair - not the part

    Thanks for the info

If that wire was connected to anything when ON you will have no spark, it grounds the primary winding when in the OFF position.

Thanks , yes i checked that it was not connected at all -
A black wire from the coil goes into a brass/copper pin in the choke lever , and when the choke closed is shorted to the earth lead also connected to the coil and chassis via another spring type connector
So its NOT connected to anything when choke lever is switched to on.

The spark i did get is not great though , but not sure what I expect really - it using a brand new NGK brand Plug

managed to get the saw going, not sure what I did , as it did not start on Tuesday , after stripping out the carb and cleaning , cleaned fuel tank, Fuel Filter  - BUT it did start on Wednesday, after pulling the starter cord quite a few time. I could see a spark was working & Smell fuel coming through , so just kept pulling

Spent afternoon cutting up a lot of 2 year old Ash I had in yard.
Now need to have the chain sharpened.
