Oil pan/sump Leaking Courage Twin 26hp can I put in a gasket? (with new locating dowels)
Hello,
HELP!... I am in a HUGE bind! I am so bummed out right now!
I have a freshly & completely rebuilt (new crank too) PS-SV735-0016 (craftsman) 26hp Kohler Courage twin engine that has vibrated the oil pan/sump loose and leaking engine oil...
Stupid me forgot to loctite the crankcase/oil pan bolts!
Mine WAS sealed with RTV and the crappy split ring locating dowels are now deformed...
(those dowels are the source of leaks I have found out on the command motor)
I have seen online (and watching DAryl fixes all, lol ) that the Kohler COMMAND twin (not mine,a courage twin) has an upgraded REAL gasket and new upgraded SOLID (not split rings) locating dowels. (because they vibrate loose) It is NOT mentioned ANY where that this gasket kit REPLACES one that takes an RTV sealant...
So, can I put a gasket in?, even though it didn't take one before? I am concerned about end play...
Damn! WHEN LOOKING at it (the command twin gasket part#'s below) looks JUST LIKE MY COURAGE's bolt pattern except it has an extra hole!
part # 024 041 54-S (which is supposed to be gasket & dowels) superseded by # 024 041 66-S
Heck, I am ready to just get new locating dowels (if I can find them) and pound out a new gasket but I am afraid it won't last now! ( I don't think I overheated the motor but it was running a qt low when I discovered it so it only ran for less than an hr)
Please help as I NEED this to get fixed and I hope the motor is not destroyed!... I am so sadly bummed out right now
Any advice? anyone tried this?
