Tecumseh 10HP HM100 No Spark Ignition Issue

Hi folks. Newbie here.

I have this Sears/Roper snow blower over 10 years now. Circa mid-80s I think. HM100 15908H SER 3178d

Last season, I found the carb rotten and replaced it after season. It ran fine when put away. This season, it would start, then die. We couldn't keep it running with any carb adjustment. Then, it wouldn't fire at all. Fuel bowl was full.

Then I checked for spark and found no spark off the coil wire. I confirmed that: 1) all ground safety circuits were open; 2) neutral starting position on gear control. I removed the flywheel to get to the coil/points/stator. Attached are pictures of ignition control unit I located. (P.S. Pic size prevents me from sharing although the pics are only 72dpi !. Pics are here: dropbox<.>com/scl/fo/tif0lu4tpj5scp4ndbbfm/h?dl=0&rlkey=0k5bvmshwiess1k2f1na3dgu2   Delete the < and >. Add the https[colon]//www[dot] at the beginning. Cut and paste.)

Anyone know what this unit is called? How I may test it? Where I may buy a replacement? Is it possible to buy parts for this unit (e.g. coil, condensor)? Where can I find part numbers? Is there a workaround if there are no parts?

Sidebar: When I removed this unit, there was oil in the underside of it where there appeared to be points (couldn't exactly make out what I was looking at because it was still wired). It is mounted to the engine shaft and it may be that the seal on the backside of the shaft is leaking. I cleaned up the underside with electronic cleaner spray and reinstalled. Still no spark. Any ideas?

FYI, when I checked the magnets on the back side of the flywheel, they were all good. On this model, the magnets are almost a complete ring, with about 6 or 8 gaps about 1/2" wide.

I ask for answers to these questions only after spending many hours bouncing around site to side, video after video, unable to find anything about my particular setup. I hope this is not the end of line for this Tecumseh. Any help is appreciated.

I don't see any points/condenser looking up that model #, just the magneto.

With that said, and if there are no points, disconnect every wire to the magneto off the little tab(for a kill wire).  The coil should fire and if it doesn't, the coil is bad.  They usually work or they don't.

*On rare occasions (mostly small, weed-eater type engines), the coil can become heat soaked after awhile.

Is your engine ignition different from this:?
