Kohler M16 idling high even after carb rebuild/tuning

Hi all,
Have an old Kohler M16 that gets run rarely.   After a long sit of about 8 months I found that it was running too high at idle.  I rebuilt and tuned the carb, set the screws to manual recommended settings.  It is generic aftermarket clone carb but the same carb was running fine last year.    I tried turning in the idle screw and even after bottoming it out it was still running high, although maybe just slightly slower.    The carb seems set on there tight enough, or at least as tight as it's ever been.  Any thoughts on most likely culprits to check next?

As there's numerous M16 Kohlers, can you post more info, specific model, what it's on, etc?

Did the machine sit for months with fuel in it?

The couple I looked at don't have an idle "STOP SCREW", is that correct on yours?

The "mixture screw" located on the upper right hand side adjusts mixture.
To richen the mix, you open the screw CC.  Turning it in till it stops LEANS out the mix, very likely
    worsening the issue.

Turn it out at least one turn and see what happens.  You can also remove it and shoot carb cleaned down the orifice.

You may end up doing a full carb cleaning making sure all jets are spotless and all orifices are open
as yours sounds to be running lean
