Sump Oil Seal??????

Hello,

I am attempting to install an oil seal in a B&S engine from a Craftsman power washer.  The engine model is 129612, type 0112E1, code 046401 FB or FD.  Based on this information I order seal  399781S.  However the I.D. of this  seal is too large (1.062"), the shaft is 0.875".  The strange thing is  when the engine was removed it appeared not to have a seal installed (see picture).  Is it possible that the seal is under the sump cover?

Thanks
Jack

    No, it'd be right there...

If you look closely there's a hole for hole to lube the seal and crank just under where the seal goes..

Looking up on Jacks, that is the correct seal.  Is the part # on the box?

If you have the old seal, is there a # on that?

From everything I have seen (videos) and read I though it should be right there.  The new seal packaging does have the proper number (799781S).  As I stated initially this engine had no seal present when I removed it.  Surprisingly it only dripped oil even without a seal present.  I did a general look-up on B&S oil seals and did not find one with that I.D. (shaft 0.875") & O.D. (1.6xx") combination.  The shaft expands in diameter farther down (below the sump cover), that and there was no seal present is why I thought it might be below the sump cover.  So I am confused to say the least.

      Thanks for the response!

Yes, the seal is usually same as the largest end of the crank, where both (crank/seal) are supported..

I've never seen an engine W/O that seal....

I'd get with Jacks, return that seal and get a replacement. It's possible the seal got mixed up and into that box..

The seal came in an unopened plastic bag and the I.D. is 1.062 as advertised.  Unfortunately I did not check the shaft diameter until I found the seal I.D. to be too large.  I just ordered the part# that was specified.  I have submitted a message to Jack's in hope that they can help resolve this.
      Thanks

Well apparently Jack's Small Engines is no longer answering their messages.  They just send out generic responses instead.

I contacted B&S and they responded that I had the correct seal and it fits the larger part of the shaft. That part of the shaft appears to be below the sump cover. However I was under the impression that it should install into the sump cover. I need to examine it further.

FYI - The reason I was having difficulty was that there was a metal ring (see pics) that was pressed into the sump that covers the seal.  What made it more difficult was that there was no seal in the engine to begin with, very strange.  It should have been obvious but wasn't.
