Intek 25 hp will not start

I replaced the main drive belt. Got a back fire on 1st start up after belt replacement. Attempted to restart and engine started with no issue. Ran the engine about 5 min to test belt installation with no problems. Shut down and parked the mower.

Now attempts to start produce nothing. Turns over,
Has spark. Verified by both spark tester and plug removed and grounded to frame.
Assume a fuel issue, but starting fluid nor adding gas directly into each cylinder tries to start the engine. Fuel pump is pumping.

I'm open to ideas. Engine has compression. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance!!

Agreed, sounds like a fuel issue..

Does that carberator have a solenoid on the bottom of it?
Should have two wires going to it.

If so, when you cycle the key from off to run(not crank), can you feel/hear
a click come from the solenoid?

That solenoid, when energized opens the fuel passage way to the main jet.
If it does not open, you have no fuel.

Also, I know you put fuel into a / the cylinder but try spraying
the starting fluid down the carb throat while cranking and see if it kicks..

Appreciate the reply. Yes, i can both hear and feel the solenoid actuation.
Have tried both the fuel in the cylinder and starting fluid, but not together. Will give it a try.

Oil level good. No gas smell. Cut with it the last of the season with no issues. New plugs.
Started early on day but would not restart a few hours later.

Update. Still no start. Verified spark again. Feel suction and exhaust pressure when cranked with finger over plug hole. Have sprayed starting fluid into the air intake while cranking. Added gas directly into each cylinder as well as via the air intake. Does not even attempt to start.
I admit to being completely stumped. Possibility of a weak spark?

Kind of wondering if the timing is off. Seem like it would temporarily run with fuel in cylinders. Both cylinders have weak spark at same time would be odd

Spark looks pretty equal on both sides. How would one go about checking the timing?
Backfired during 1st start after belt replacement the run fine. Now won't start.
I'm at a loss and running out of ideas.

I would check the flywheel key, probably a YouTube video on it to help you out. If the compression is good, fuel and spark are adequate then that’s what I would check.

Think you may be on to something. May be a few days before I can take a look, but will post what I find.

Scratch that idea. Key shows no movement and appears to be exactly when it should be.
Guess we pull the carb and look for trash or blockages.

Key in the flywheel looks as it should. Checked for maybe a bent pushrod or sticking valve. All working as it should.
Know it has spark, just regapped the coil to flywheel, 0015. Still not sure about fuel flow. Plunger for fuel cutoff solenoid opening and closing. Still will not fire with starting fluid sprayed directly into the air intake while cranking.
Am I correct that any safety switch kills the spark? Does seem to drain the battery fast while cranking. Don't see that causing a starting issue.
Any thoughts before I pull myself completely bald?

Did you actually pull the flywheel off to check the key?

And yes, some safety switches, low oil switch, will kill spark.
You visibly have spark at both plugs when cranking(grounded to the head) correct?

If so, that's not your issue.

No, I did not actually pull the flywheel off. Removed the retaining nut and saw no sign of movement, etc.

Have managed to start the engine on several occasions. timing does not appear to be an issue. Issue appears to possibly be with the kill wires off the coil or the coil itself. engine has a bad habit of backfiring through the left cylinder. Any thoughts?

Put an in-line spark tester on each cylinder and see if the suspect cylinder is not sparking occasionally.

Their pretty cheap on Flea Bay..

Good thought. Had checked for spark but never looked for an erratic fire. Thsnks.

Ordered and replaced both coils. Engine now starts with ease. Appears there was a weak spark with one of the coils.
I appreciate all the replies and suggedtions.
