1800W petrol generator hard to restart if hot
got hold of a generator from work (was sitting for 5 years) with about 20 hours on it
stripped it down, cleaned, checked it over. all the usual stuff
head off checked OK, valves cleaned, re-seated, carby cleaned (ultrasonic cleaner) valve backlash set
anyway put it all together stuck some fuel it and it went on 2 pulls....happpy!! choke on for a second then flipped to run.
loaded with 1200 electric blow heater and it works fine.
BUT what i have noticed if it`s been running for 10 seconds or 2 mins, 10 mins (any run period)
if i turn it off and try to restart straight away it will NOT restart unless it`s pulled 50 to 100 times!! (i lost count)
if i leave it for and hour or 2 it will go 1st or 2nd pull (choke on for a second then flipped to run) works OK
so whats with it being VERY! hard restart when it`s hot.(or even just warm)
tried full choke, half choke, no choke makes no difference.... just wont restart unless pulled MANY times
maybe when the electrical kill switch is turned off, the motor will run down and is still puling fuel in (but not being burnt) and thus is flooding, hence VERY hard to re-start?
-got the correct oil and correct level
-machine is on level ground
- have tried disconnecting the low oil switch (no difference)
-checked valve clearance (when cold) and they are still spot on.
any ideas?
also whats with small silver thing on the side of the engine (above the low oil switch) with a black and yellow wire coming from it?
Cheers,
Richard
