Drive shaft

New to this forum. I did an engine swap on my Hustler 60” zero turn powered by a Kawasaki FR730V. As I went to replace the pulley and clutch, I encountered a problem; the drive spindle is an inch shorter than the one on the original motor. DIY’er rookie mistake on the order. My question to this forum is this: would it be possible/advisable to take 1/2” off each end of the pulley or 1” off the end of the pulley that contacts the clutch (this would be done at a machine shop)? Or is there a pulley that I could order that would allow proper re-assembly? I know these motors are used in several makes of mowers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not quite sure what's too long and what's too short..

However, if the have a keyed (for a square key) pully that's too long you can certainly cut it down
with a cut off wheel/tool...  If doing so, leave a little extra on the cut, then trim slowly and evenly to get the pully cut nice and square...
