10hp Tecumseh engine on MTD 665E snow thrower: gas squirts as I prime
I was getting ready to jump in and start some maintenance on a unit not used in a while. I planned to let some sea foam soak in the fuel system by priming it and letting it sit overnight. Joke was on me. When I primed it i noticed fuel dripping from the other side of the motor. Now I have to start taking stuff apart to investigate and see if it is just a varnish plug or a complete rebuilt or replacement is needed. First I need a diagram of this engine. I think I found the oil drainage pipe but I really need an engine manual. Any Ideas? TIA

I have a picture of label…. model: HMSK 105 159908B engine famdamily: 1TPXS.3582BF displacement 358. DOM: 1277E i forgot to explain the picture, there is green @$&@$# coming out of the carb. TIA

I didn't see the green in the pic, but I do now Mike.... +1, there's something going on in that carb... Here's what the inside of the carb should look like (after a Sonic cleaning):

i have rebuilt a few carbs this year: a poulan chainsaw, a wood chipper with a Kohler engine, craftsman string trimmer, and now looks like this 10hp tecumseh engine. It looks more complicated than the others I have done this year. More linkages and so on. But it needs to be done. This diagram will help me know this engine!

Hang on to your old carb just in case. Tecumseh closed up many years ago

Doesn’t matter, it’s just a drain valve for fuel bowl.

The one thing I find really odd is this engine didn't have an air filter. What am I missing? I looked in the manual and couldnt find an idle speed in rpms.

Looking at your picture links, the machine is designed with no air filter. Being a snow blower, there's no dirt kicked up that could be sucked in to the engine. Just like a an outboard boat engine, no air filter. Regarding idle RPM's, just a good steady low RPM that with the rotating part of the machine turning, the engine doesn't stall. This isn't terribly important. Max RPMs will likely be 3,600 RPMs. You don't want to go above that as it'll shorten the life of the engine and wear parts of the machine prematurely. .
