ToroZX600 Spindle Pulley

ToroZX600 Spindle Pulley

I cannot separate the shaft from the pulley. As a result, the parts are still connected to the deck. I cannot remove the parts until I can separate the shaft from the pulley. I have been banging on the top of the shaft (with nut attached) for two days…soaked in PB Blaster for 2 days as well. Do I just need to keep pounding?

    Un-less I'm missing something,
    your trying to remove the blade pulley (atop the deck) from the spindle, correct?
     
    That large nut atop the pulley needs to be removed.  That nut holds the entire assembly together.
     
    Block the blade from turning and spin that nut off (CC/regular threads).
    The pulley will pop off easily.  
     
    Now you can remove the 4 bolts holding the assembly on from the deck.
     
    The pulley has splines that mesh with the shaft-Make sure those aren't stripped.

    I should have stated, I have removed the nut on top of the shaft. Then I put it back on just flush with the top of the shaft to try to bang the shaft back down through the pulley.

    Also, I have removed the bolts holding the spindle to the deck, and I have removed the blade.

    I'd  bolt the main unit back up to the deck.  Then remove the nut
    and pulley.  There may be a spacer /collar ) under there. 
     
    The spindle should come out un-less very rusty between the bearings and shaft or the shaft is bent.
     
    Now take the unit off the deck and block it on a concrete floor.  You'll have much better results
    with the solid floor supporting your efforts...
     
     
     
    What happened that the unit has to come apart?

    The spindle bearings went out on me. The problem is that the shaft goes in at the bottom of the spindle, and the top of the shaft contains the thread for the top nut. Then the blade screws into the bottom of the shaft at the bottom of the spindle. I’m thinking pulling the deck off and try to pull the spindle off the shaft from that angle.

    It doesn't take long to remove the deck and in most cases, it's preferably to do so.
    (Clean and inspect the deck as well as idles and other spindles, lube the spring loaded tensioner
    ((which likes to seize up))
     
    With the worn bearings, if really bad, can jamb up disassembly. 
    I'd remove the spindle, support with 2 x 4's on the ground, then use a 2x4 to protect the threads
    and have at it.
