Electric Start not working

I have a 3 year old DK2 Power chipper with a Kohler CH440. It has electric starter which had worked great for 3+ years but now when I turn the key it only makes a noise.  I don't know whether the problem is in the starter, key switch or relay.

It would help GREATLY to listen closely to WHERE THE "NOISE" is coming from.
A long screw driver to different area's and to your ear works very well.
You really shouldn't even have to use that, just listen(and post back)

To check the starter, disconnect the main wire to it.  Then run a heavy jumper, 12 volts to the starter DIRECT.  If it cranks over, the starter is fine.

To check further (if the above works properly), take a test light (12 volt), and check at the solenoid.
If it lights up when the key is turned to CRANK, you should have power.

    Advise..
