Primer bulb not working

I have a pusher mower with Briggs & Stratton engine. I have just replaced the primer bulb and now it doesn't squirt any gas when I press it. I can hear the air going in and out and I suspect a check valve (if there is one) isn't working. I don't know the part # of the mower but it is from 2007. I think the carb part number is 494406.

That part # is for a FUEL TANK only:

Was the old primer bulb RED, maybe 3/4" in diameter?

If so, I believe they had one with a hole in the middle and without a hole in the middle
Did you you replace yours with the exact same one?

An engine model would also help:
