Kohler Courage XT-7 fuel system question
Hi all, and thanks in advance for taking time to help.
This XT-7 engine is on a Husky Power Washer. I started out working on the fact that the on/off switch would not kill the engine. However, once I got it in the garage I found it was leaking gasoline, which is what I want to discuss. Digging in to it, I found the gas was coming from the air filter. In fact, the air filter was filling up with gas anytime the power washer was rolled around from one place to another. Summarizing, tilting the power washer back in order to roll it results in gasoline coming out of the carburetor into the air filter. To be clear, I am not talking about a radical tilt. Just enough to roll it.
Had the air filter gasket not been mangled, I may have never noticed this. Since it was mangled, the gas was dripping from the air filter.
This fuel system is gravity fed from the tank, and does not include a fuel cutoff valve.
Fuel is fed from the tank, through a filter and into a bowl. Fuel flow to the carburetor is regulated via a float inside the bowl.
Questions- What is intended to prevent gasoline from flowing into the air filter ? Since there is no mention in the service manual of anything that specifically does that, my theory is it might be that same float. Does anyone know how that works ?
- I suspect the bowl float is the culprit, but --Is there something else I should be looking at ?
- This engine is different in so many ways that I have to ask - Is there an outside chance this is expected behavior?
Again, thanks in advance for any comments.
