You need your purchase invoice and take the entire piece into the dealer you brought the equipment from. If over either of warranty time frame they probably deny warranty coverage. The dealers hunt for any excuse not to honor the warranty or at least they do here.
 
I had an unit in my shop that the ignition coils failed on that Kohler themselves said was under warranty that I could not get made up because I had no way to haul the big 60" ZTR into a shop nor did the customer had his purchase invoice. I ended charging the customer for two new coils and labor. At least my labor is lower than the Kohler dealers.
