EU2000i Generator Has Been Sitting for a While

Well, 8 years to be exact.

It's been setting without being run since the demo on the day I bought it.

Fuel and Oil in it and that dealership tells me it would definitely have been gas with ethanol in it.

Florence made me think about selling it, so I've brought it out and cleaned it up but haven't tried to start it.

The Honda shop is telling me I'll need a new carb and a radical cleaning of tank and tubing for it to ever run a again

I'm old enough to remember back when we didn't replace carbs, we CLEANED THEM

I'm wondering if one of these MEDIC in a CAN type products could stand a chance of putting this carb back in service. (?)

Thanks

    I'm sure everything needs cleaning.
Fuel line in bulk is a few bucks per 4 or 6 feet, so don't get something "specialized" or "specific".
Just take it apart, you might need a new carb gasket or O-ring, and clean it with whatever.
Clean it *Outdoors* with gas or diesel or something special from X-mart for $4.
Also, check out a spray can of Fogger or Tune-Up to coat the cylinder walls without the sparkplug in (spray into opening) and pull gently a couple dozen times to loosen it all up.
Replace Oil, run 2 minutes, and replace again. It's only a few ounces.
I've even flushed oil spaces with diesel (let it sit for 20min - 1hr or more), shake, and let drip dry for a bit before refilling with good oil.

Honda wants a new carb install?  Radical cleaning of the tank?  Any carburetor can be cleaned and any tank simply siphoned out or emptied and filled with fresh gas.  One thing about ethanol is it acts like a varnish cleaner.  I'd clean the carburetor with spray and compressed air the way you used to.  Pour fresh gas in the tank, shake it up a bit, let it sit a few minutes and then siphon dry and replace with fresh gas.  Then try to start and run it.  Obviously change the oil first.  Run it (if it starts) change oil, run some more.  Star-tron or some other marine fuel stabilizer/cleaner cannot hurt.  I would start there before having the carburetor replaced and all the other stuff the dealer wants.
