B&S Generator Needs an Electric Start
I have a Briggs & Stratton Pull-Start Generator (2161120110E1) and I need to add an electric starter. I am paralyzed so it's very difficult (impossible!) for me to pull start it. I have a parts manual and it suggests it has a starter option, but there isn't a part number. Only individual parts for the starter. There are two bolt holes on the side where the pull rope sticks that look like mounting holes. I haven't removed the flywheel cover yet to see if it has teeth, but the parts manual also suggests that it does. Are there any kits for these machines? Thanks.

The IPL for the engine listed doesn't a gear ring on the 794814 flywheel. You need the 794812 flywheel to swap flywheels. The starter is PN 695479.
The starter is 135.20 list and the flywheel is 119.05 list. Now an after market starter is around $40 plus depending where you source it. You would need the starter cover PN 697465 and all the mounting screws related to the installation of the starter.

Plus an alternator and voltage regulator to charge the battery (another expense), the generator produces 110VAC which is too high, an on-off-start switch and wiring. You are likely better off selling it and purchasing a suitable replacement.

Sorry Roy the 216112-0110 doesn't a stator [alternator] available. Don't even have mounting posts for one; therefore, it is impossible to add one. My current Briggs generator with electric start does have a starter relay [solenoid] and start switch with a separate kill switch. The battery is a gel cell type which has an option of being by the generator via a 120vac to 12vdc adapter [charger].

That is another way of doing it and a lot cheaper  Still, a properly equipped generator won't be much more than the conversion.

Yes they are about the same pricing especially if you need someone else to install the parts. This why I don't do overhauls anymore and can't more than repair the carburetor on walk behind mowers.

Oh boy. I wish I had looked back here sooner. I just finished installing all the hardware. I had all the tools in my shop (wrenches and puller) so it wasn't a big deal. With a jump it turns over fine, but won't start. I think I must have gotten the timing off when installing the new flywheel. Any suggestions?

I just noticed a second oil cap. Is this gear reduction oil? Does anyone know if there is a low oil switch for the motor oil and the gear reduction oil?

There is no gear reduction, the second cap is for access on a different application. Unlikely it has a low oil switch, if it does there will be a lug on the side of the block with a couple of wires coming out of it.

I have it turning over and starting with starter fluid, but it won't run. I cleaned the carb, compared the two flywheels (magnet and key slot are the same), and I made sure the key was tight. It acts like it's not getting fuel, but it's flowing from the tank to the carb, into the bowl, and the jets are clean. Has to be a timing issue, right?
