Briggs 130292 3111

I’m needing some help finding parts for my Briggs. There is a discrepancy with Briggs parts list and diagram. I have already contacted Briggs themselves and there is nothing they can do and are referring me to a local mechanic. The part I’m needing is the crankshaft seal. The crank shaft is 1 inch around. The seal Briggs is sending me is correct in the picture, but too small by 1/2 inch. They keep telling me that there must be a mistake on my end and they even asked me if I have a Briggs engine. The seal they are sending me fits my camshaft opening perfectly. Per the diagram from Briggs, the camshaft seal is not listed in the parts list or diagram. Either way I got the camshaft seal (which I needed anyway) but still need the crankshaft seal. The engine that I have Is joined to an OLD MTD tiller. There is a crankshaft and a camshaft that come through the crankcase, which in turn, hold pulleys. The Briggs engine diagram doesn’t show that the camshaft even goes through the crankcase itself. I’m even having a hard time finding the right camshaft for my engine as well. This is my first post and I hope my pictures attach so you can see for yourself. I don’t know what to do. The parts I’m looking for are no longer available and I can’t find anyone with used parts, trust me, I’ve tried. Any help on something I’m missing would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Hi! I've dealt with Briggs quite a bit lately. Can you tell me what your briggs engine is on? The Briggs and stratton model number you list is not a verified number. Is it on a chain saw, mower? Also please give me the model number of your equipment and the HP of your Briggs. I think I can help, but need more info! Your engine number is correct, but your type is missing numbers! It should be a 3111-??
    Thanks! Countrygirl

I did not see the part about your briggs and stratton being on an MTD Tiller until now. Is your Briggs motor a 5 hp? The HP is the key to finding your part!

you bring up some great question haha. I'm currently at work but I'm 99% sure that my engine is a 5hp. I tried to locate the MTD tiller model number on the body but i was not able to find it. I can look at it again tonight and let you know exactly what the model number is. The Briggs engine number 130292-3111-01-91090327. I have attached the picture of the serial plate just above your first post. I appreciate you trying to help! THANK YOU!

What you are needing is item 19. The Bushing/Seal kit PN 297603. It is still available; although, several sites lists it as NLA. Just need order it though a dealer that access to the part via their distributor. But you must order the kit.

Or if you still have the old seal it size should be on it.

As far as the camshaft it is NLA so you need to locate an good used one but as you indicate the PN listed is incorrect.

The image says it is 212-405-000 but it having engine manufactured Sept 03, 1991 it is more likely the 212-406-000 which is a 1992 model.

Here is a link to both model's IPLs

Just have to compare parts to narrow it to which it is.

I did end up finding the model number for the MTD tiller on the serial sticker, faint, but readable. You’re correct, it ends up being the 212-406-000 for the tiller. Now I’m just frustrated as I can’t locate the correct cam shaft that I’m needing nor the correct PN for it. Do I expect Briggs to still carry this camshaft after nearly 25+ years?.....No. I do, however, expect them to at least give me the correct PN/diagram so I can adequately track the correct parts.
