Koehler CH14 Ingersoll Rand Compressor Carburetor Issues

I have a compressor with the CH 14 Kohler engine. Fuel is running through the carburetor and flooding the cylinder and contaminating the oil . It looks like this carburetor has an electro mechanical fuel shut off built into it. Is this serviceable? Is it possible that there’s just some dirt in the fuel shut off that could be cleaned out?

That is an after fire fuel shut valve. IT just prevents excessive fuel from entering the exhaust upon engine shut down.

Your carburetor is needing cleaning and a new float valve needle and possibly a new need needle seat replacement Provide you have the one that has a replacement seat available. Would need the engine's spec number to see which carb it has.

I am having quite a difficult time uploading an image of the engine information sticker from my iPad. I hope you can see it by accessing this link.

    CH440-3021

Carburetor repair kit is PN 1775703-S.
Fuel inlet screen PN 1705023-S if needed.

Carburetor is using a soft seal type float valve so there probably no seat damage but if there is from corrosion then complete carburetor replacement is the only option. Current PN 1785396-S.

BTW this a Honda style carburetor.

    Thanks for that.

I don’t see any in-line fuel filter of fuel shut-off on this equipment. Do you think I should add some?

A fuel filter would be a good idea but make sure it is correct for your application. Gravity feed and fuel pump systems use different micron sized screens. If the fuel supply is below the carburetor a shut off isn't really necessary, if the tank is above then yes, add one.

Just as an aside, I think it is interesting to note that this compressor originally cost around $2000. The same compressor, but with a Honda engine instead of the Kohler costs around $700 more. In the reviews on the northern tool website it is pretty clear that a few people are very unhappy with the Kohler. When I bought this compressor I was thinking that Kohler is it top-notch American brand, and then I noticed that this engine is made in China, I was thinking that if this engine failed I might swap it out for a Honda and now I am curious as to where they manufacture their engines. And if the large cost premium is justified.
