Kohler 25hp CH25S ELECTRICAL

Hey Guys, I can't figure this problem out. First the Key stopped working for starting the Mower. So I jumped it at the Starter with the Key on and it ran. But I couldn't shut it off unless I choked it. NOW I am getting no spark at all. About a month ago I upgraded it to New Coils(single post) and a new Flywheel. It ran great until a few days ago. I put a Brand New Stator and Regulator in it and still I have no spark at all. I assumed like an idiot that since the Coils were nearly Brand-new that they are probably still good. I need to take the Cover off again and check OHM' to figure that out. Would someone please give me some advice here before I end up buying two new coils again. The ignition problem beffles me. Fuses are good and the few wires I checkes with OHM' all have continuity. I need this mower bad right now with this early Fall clean-up.

Have you tested the ignition switch and do you have continuity on the kill wire to the coils?

Yes...there is continuity on the kill wire. I also replaced the ignition switch and it made no difference at all. I had a mechanic over here this morning he managed to burn out both coils on this mower. So now I'm off to buy two coils just to get it running again. The original problems are still there. If I put the Kill wires back on the coils the engine will not start. The key ignition still will not turn over the engine.

First that mechanic has no business working anything electrical again as it appears that he applied 12V to the coils kill terminals. They are never to have 12 applied to them since they are CDI versions.

From you previous it appears that you have a short in the coils kill circuit to ground. The only time the kill wire should grounded is when the ignition is off.

Now one question. When say key ignition will not turn over the engine what do you mean? Starter won't engage or just just spins the engine and the engine never come to life.

When I turn the key to start it the Starter will not engage. Both of these problems happened at the same time. I suppose I can keep the push button hooked up to the Starter ans solenoid to start it for now. Sounds like I will have to change out the Harness to have everything back to normal.  You are correct about that Mechanic. It blew my mind that he fried the coils and then stood there and told me I needed to replace the coils. It was an exspesive day! And still I have these two problems. It takes all kinds to make the world go round!

It does sound you have a failed ignition switch but only testing it would verify that. As for the testing I would need the mower's model number from the serial number tag in most to look-up the schematics.

I do deal with repair where other co-called repairmen have failed due to their lack of knowledge. I even seen where JD techs are lost when it comes small engine repair and equipment repairs. They supposedly JD and Stihl trained techs but the last warranty repair of a Stihl hedger was a failure when they couldn't even find a bad spark plug.
