Kohler Tractor Engine runs for 7 minutes and then dies....must cool to restart.

I changed the fuel tank, fuel cap, fuel lines, gas filter, solenoid, spark plug, and ignition coil.  The tractor runs for about seven minutes and then sputters and dies.  I can restart it but the same thing happens after two minutes and then it will not start at all.  I must let it cool for 30 minutes an then can start the process all over again.

I noticed that my fuel filter is 25-050-22-S and not the 25-050-21-S as specs state.  Would that matter?

The replacement ignition coil I purchased and installed from a reputable dealer was USED....$15.  Is it possible this is bad?

    Well the filter specs are

2505021-S 75 Micron for Gravity Fed systems
2505022-S 51 Micron for Fuel Pump systems

I have use tighter spec filter on gravity systems without problems but that depends on the tank and its location. Matter of fact I use a 25 Micron filter on my Briggs engine on the Bolens rider that I just retired. Retire it as I went to 42" cut from the 38" cut.

And it does sounds like the used ignition is bad as the electronics that are overly heat sensitive. Semiconductors do become heat sensitive as they age. I know I have replaced a lot of them over the years in office and radio equipment.

J-  I did a lot of reading.  Here is what I did....  changed the fuel lines and tank, changed the fuel filter, changed the solenoid and changed the ignition coil.  I do not think the tank did anything.  If I had to do it again, change the fuel filter first.  Make SURE you use the 21 model and not the 22.  See above for the difference.  If that does not work, change the solenoid.  It unscrews out of the bottom of the carb.  If all else fails, change the ignition coil.  I am NOT a pro but changing the coil was easy.  I kept track where each screw went and I moved slowly throughout the process.  The folks on this BLOG were great help as was YOUTUBE videos.  Good luck!
