Vanguard 6.5 carb float needed but none available

I have a Vanguard 6.5hp on a Hud-Son operable sawmill. Motor trouble and I find the float has a chip missing in the part that holds the needle. I can’t find a replacement anywhere in the country it seems—anything online comes back “not available now” or “out of stock”...I’m told by several that this 13L332-0122-F8 is an oddity of sorts...so any hints on what I might try? Short of trying to remelt some material and try and fill the tiny area, I’ve tried to adapt about 5 other floats but can’t make them fit as far as clearances...
Arrrrggggg!! Maddening!

Since a replacement float could not be found, not a carb, I resorted to some “re-engineering” of melting plastic to try and salvage the float. After several attempts, it did work but still not exact, but would run on nearly full choke. I did another little tweak but haven’t yet tried it again...but in the meantime, I just found an eBay seller that had some original carbs so I’ve ordered one. We shall see...

Jack’s was one of the early ones I actually contacted by phone...a few keyboard clicks, and the person on the other end confirmed what I had guessed, “actually we don’t have that in stock and I can’t tell you if or when we’d be able to get one...”
I figured out quick that when I see the words “ships in 4-9 days if in stock” that’s code for “we should be able to get it for you” unless the engine/parts has been discontinued earlier than usual...

I have found that if the system lets you put it into the shopping cart and place the order the part will come.. I just built a 3 point hitch for a Simplicity Legacy (old version) from parts. Everybody said it could not be done.  All the parts I put in the shopping cart were delivered but some took a month or more to get to me..

I did just that with two other entities, and was contacted the next day to be told that it could be weeks or months before a part might be available, and was offered a refund, or wait it out. I think it’s ridiculous to wait on Briggs and others for this (long story on the details of how a good engine was “changed” so soon and yet no other part was able to be substituted—sticking it to the customer)...
So if I need to cut my nose off to spite my face, it’ll heal...lol

Well, as luck would have it, I think, I was able to find an eBay seller that had some carburetors. Good price and looked to be the one. Received today and hopefully will get decent weather to install in a day or so.

Installed and works perfectly now! Whew! Thanks to the EBay seller that had a few of them. Thanks for the guidance here too.
