8 HP Engine Swap Question

Good Evening All!

New to the forum and I have a question regarding swapping an 8 hp motor from a generator to a log splitter.  Assuming shaft size is the same, is there a way to convert the generator motor from a governor run throttle to a manual throttle?  The motor on the log splitter has a manual throttle and the generator is run by a governor.  I don't want to tear apart the engine if possible.

Generator is a BS 8 HP 190412-2933 02 from 1987 if that helps.  I don't have the model of the splitter motor on hand, but they look pretty much identical except the throttle.

Thanks much for your expertise!

Welcome! They are both controlled by a governor but one has a fixed speed throttle control, the other variable. It is simply a matter of swapping the throttle control plate from one to the other. The bigger issue will be the drive end of the generator crankshaft, it will be tapered with no keyway so no way of attaching the pulley or coupling from the log splitter engine unless you are a machinist.

Thanks for the info, Roy.  I'm glad you mentioned the shaft before I tore the whole generator apart!  You saved me a lot of work and cussing!!  Thanks again!
