Wood chipper jammed pull cord

I just bought a used but supposedly brand new wood chipper. It’s a champion 338cc, upon inspection it looked like it had never been used, gas tank and oil compartment looked completely untouched. I added fuel and oil, gave it a few small pulls, then tried a couple harder pulls. After 6 pulls or so the pull cord jammed. The flywheel is fine, if I take it off I can pull it no problem, but there’s some sort of jam in the engine. (The blades are not jammed). If I put a lot of pressure on the cord I can eventually get it to pull but I noticed it shoots gas out the exhaust and/or carbeurator and there’s also gas puddles in the air filter

It s flooded with gas, remove the spark plug and with the switch in the OFF position (this is important) and fuel shut off if possible pull the rope until the geyser quits. Change the oil and disassemble the carburetor to clean paying particular attention to the inlet needle. Carb and choke cleaner works well here.

Thanks for your help, I’ll give this a try. I’d just like to ask though, why do I need to change the oil? It was just put in today. Thanks again!

It will be diluted with gas that leaked past the rings. Stand to the side before removing the fill plug.

Thanks Roy. I pulled the spark plug and all the gas spat out, changed the pile, cleaned the carburetor, was able to get it started but somehow gas is still getting into the engine. After running it briefly two times the pull cord is jammed again and gas is leaking out the carb. When I had the carb off the first time I checked the float and it seemed to be working properly, if I pushed it up the gas would stop flowing. Not sure how there’s still a leak

The float valve is likely a soft seal version and if so it is when it is at soft seal that it is not sealing completely. Need to pressure test inverted with just the natural weight of the float holding it closed.
