intake to head gaskets

I have a Briggs 44l777 0115 b1 on a JD z425. When I pulled my carb, it only has what looks like a flat ring gasket in a recessed groove between the intake and the head. The parts diagram shows two gaskets one is a flange type gasket and the other is shown as a "seal o ring" can anyone tell me which of these I need to use or does it take both?
Thanks

    Are you referring to part # 690949 & part # 691917?

Ok, the seal o ring goes on the intake piping.
So is the gasket you took off round, rubbery like the seal o ring?

Yes, they seem to be rubber. Engine did not have the flange type gaskets. Do I also need those?

No, you do not need them. The seal o rings are for the plastic intake piping on the v twin.
