Toro Tractor

I have a Toro Tractor with a Kohler engine that is approximately 10 years old. It would not turn over evenwith a fully charged battery. We put a new selonoid on and it did the same thing. We thought the starter was bad. I did some research and read that sometimes they get a compression lock. i took the spark plug out and sure enough the engine turned over. Put the plug back in. Now the engine will pump(like the battery is weak) and that's all . The battery is fully charged. Help!

Are the battery connections clean and tight? Check for a corroded cable as well as the ground connection on the engine block. What is the model number of the engine? It may need valve adjustment.

Is this a new battery, if not have you had it load tested?
