B&S 7.25exi smoking

Dipstick shows low oil but air filter has oil in it and it blows out a huge cloud of smoke then dies. It was lightly smoking blue smoke, or maybe it was light enough that it looked blue, so I checked the oil and it was low so I added some and now here we are.

Also what are the symptoms of low oil for future reference. My old mower had no oil and locked up while smoking so that’s what concerned me.

    Oil Capacity is 16 oz.

To change or drain. Two methods available.

Either turn the engine on it side and drain out the oil fill tube or use a oil exractor.

Which side? Like a fluid extractor?

On whichever side that places the the oil fill at the lowest point. It very clumsy and messy to drain the oil this way.

Fluid extractor that I use here in the shop is the HF pneumatic oil extractor as there is no point making an unnecessary mess. It very clumsy to drain the oil the way the OEM says to do it. I hate the very first I have to change the oil on a MTD tiller that a drain plug but had it inaccessible. I have since had to mount replacement engines where the operator can no longer change their oil without an extractor.

I’ve drained and refilled the oil, it was definitely overfilled. But it’s still smoking now, I’ve changed the air filter and cleaned the spark plug, how much smoke should I expect to burn off any remaining oil?

It can take up to 10 minutes of continuous running depending how oil soak the exhaust muffler is. If it doesn't clear after this then you still have problems.
