Little hose in chainsaw fuel tank to carb

How far in does the little hose go into the top of the gas tank in a Poulan Chainsaw ( not the fuel line )? Changed all hoses, spark plug, filter and carburator. Can't get the darn thing to run or start unless put gas in the cylinder and only runs for maybe 10 seconds. Model P4314WSA Thanks all.

That is the primer return line, it does not need to be immersed in fuel. Maybe it and the impulse line are reversed.

Model looks to be a typo. Appears to be a Poulan Woodshark P3314WSA instead of a P4314WSA. Either a type 1 or 2.

First there is no separate impulse line as the impulse is fed through the intake manifold and the gasket directly between the carburetor can't be installed incorrectly.

It is more likely the plumbing of the carburetor is incorrect. I see a lot of DIYers thinking that the primer pushes fuel into the carburetor when instead it just pulls fuel into the carburetor and removes excess air. With this thought in mind I suggest rechecking the fuel lines plumbing.

Was just thinking, if I reverse lines, how is the gas getting in to the carburator? There is only 1 line from the tank other then the thin line which as people say just drops into the top of the tank?

Think I got it. When I opened it up, all the lines were busted and I am a diy as not many people around here do it. The thin line I guess goes to the long nipple on the bubble and the main fuel like goes directly into the the top of the carb and where I had the thin hose connected goes into the short nipple. Think I got it and thanks for your help.

Well not so fast. I connected the thin hose from the gas tank to the small Port on the opposite side lower. I connected the main fuel line to the long stem on the bulb. Connected the short stem on the bulb to the left side top Port of the carb. I push the bulb six times but no fuel. Won't start. Shouldn't I be seeing fuel in the bulb? Thanks

Did some testing. The lower Port I guess is the intake and the top Port is the return on the carb. I swear it was the other way around as the thin tube was connected there and in the top of the tank and the other 2 were in the other spots but oh well. I switch around and that's when I get a stuck primer so it has to be the other way as described first ( intake up top and return on bottom ). Augh. Wrote down what I seen when I disassembled. Unless the new carb is setup different? Thanks. Anyone need tv help, send me a message. Will help you out.
