B&S 6.5hp pushing oil out of the carburetor

Working on an issue with my neighbor's self propelled Troy Built mower. His son was cutting grass yesterday and suddenly oil starts pouring from the air filter box. Don't have the model info yet, but could someone point me in the right direction to start my investigation. I checked the oil and cannot smell fuel. Oil level is only slightly below full. My neighbor and his son both insured me that they had not overfilled the oil, and they also stated that they did not add oil yesterday before use. I have heard of this before, but never seen it.

Thanks for the help
Ken

You could have a broken ring that is allowing compression to leak in the crank case and blowing through the breather system. I don't know any other things that would cause it.

I can't see a ring breaking for no apparent reason. Was he cutting across a slope with the carburetor on the low side? If the engine is ohv a failed head gasket could cause that as well.

This is why the OP needs to post the model and type number of the engine. Even the date code might be needed too.

Personally I like know what we are commenting on before I post any troubleshooting info.

As not being able to smell fuel in oil. I haven't ever been able to do this on smaller amounts but it can still vaporize and push oil out due excessive crankcase pressure though the PCV vent. The question here is the oil in the carb from the PCV system or is it from the intake side?

Sorry it has taken me such a long time to respond. The motor model #126T02-0675-B2. Today we started to swap the motor on the mower with a motor that came off of a different mower that the frame rusted out. Before we swapped it we did a compression test and it was 65 PSI and held for over 5 min and never moved. We checked the oil and it was slightly over filled. We put the plug back in and started the mower. It started very easily and ran with no noises nor any smoke. I raised the left side of the mower as if I were mowing on an incline and let the mower run for a few minutes. No oil or smoke from the carb.
At this point we both believe that the oil was over serviced and that was the cause. He is going to use it for now and see what happens.

    Thanks for the help.
