Shortblock/replacment engine

M#350447-1222-a1
Im trying to find this 18hp v-twin vanguard engine or a short block for it. It MUST have a 3-51/64 tapered shaft. This goes on a generator and the original has a hole in the crankcase from it throwing a rod. I can't for the life of me find anything for it.

Briggs does not offer a direct replacement engine or short block. What is the code date? There are two tapered cranks available for the 350447 series but neither are the length you give. Should it be 3-21/64"?
Hard to say what the differences are between your engine and the latest version. You may have to change governor linkage to accomodate auto idle. Is yours on propane?

Might be a bit of a stretch and not financially doable but maybe see what the cost of a new crankshaft would be and then see if anyone has a good deal on a short block that has a more common crank that you could swap your components onto along with the new crank. Then sell the un-needed crank on E-bay?

Another off the wall idea would be if you have a buddy that has a machine shop you might be able to take a straight crankshaft and have the end machined to match your damaged one.

We actually did that many years ago for an old Wisconsin V-4 engine in a Bobcat skid steer, original crank had snapped due to side loading from drive belt.

No propane, it's just your usual 4 stroke engine. The code is 96111211. When I measure the shaft 3-21/64 measures the tapered part only. Then 3-51/64 measures the whole shaft, taper and the small amount of straight shaft near the crankcase side of it.
