Generator Auto Idler, 16HP Vanguard

The auto Idler switch doesn’t work on my Baldor 9000 generator. The 16HP Vanguard goes right to max RPM with no load on it. Is there a solenoid on this engine?

There will be a solenoid with a plunger that pushes against the governor arm. the adjustment is critical for the auto idle to work. It will be visible under the air cleaner base.

Also can be an electrical issue with the auto idle circuit such as a non-operational switch due dirty contacts. So it is a matter of finding if solenoid trying to engage the throttle down or not first.

Ill take a look for it thanks. I did a continuity on the switch and it is good but I’ll check voltage next. I assume everything runs on 12v?

The start and battery charge circuits are 12VDC. The auto idle is controlled by a winding in the generator, idk what the voltage would be. With the generator running the plunger should pop out when the switch is turned on.

I got to the solenoid and it says 12v on it so I’ll put voltage to it and see if i can get it to move

Ok, it looks like the spring on the solenoid was played with. Any tips on how to adjust it?
