Briggs and Stratton 35 HP air cooled engine - Regulator

HI...first time poster.

I have a Scag turf tiger with a 35 HP B&S air cooled engine....Eng. No. 6134772186G1.  I replaced the battery; but, after running the engine, the battery is not being recharged.  The current regulator is Part number 808297....it has been replaced with 848221; but, the new part doesn't look like the old part...and has different connectors that won't work with this engine.  Does anybody know which replacement part is correct for this engine?

Can you post a picture of the old regulator? This because first 808297 does not supersede to 848221 instead it supersedes to 691573. On top of that the ipl for the model/type posted uses two different regulators than either of the numbers posted. One is the 841170 which does supersedes to 848221 and the other is PN 847385 which hasn't been superseded.

Going an picture of the original regulator so I can compare it to the two that the IPL said that could have came your engine.

Another Briggs screw up in the IPL I see. I don't know who cross reference your part but they got it wrong.

    You will need the 691573.

The 848221 looks like this so I see the problem. Too many connectors.

How can one rely on B&S parts manuals for anything?

Most of the time they are fairly accurate but with all things nothing is perfect. I have found a few errors over the 10+ years I hive been working Briggs engines. It is why I like to find pictures of the parts.

Just today I was looking for a Murray belt part number and it got crossed to a Snapper part number for a spindle.
