Honda makes two series of engines, the cheaper GC is most often found on lower priced consumer equipment. It does the job for rhe most part but a major failure is not worth dealing with. The GX is a premium series found on more expensive equipment. Subaru ended small engine production.

Yes Subaru/Robin is no longer producing engines. This is because Yamaha purchased that division on December 13, 2016 so on October 2nd, 2017 Surabu offically withdraw from the small engine market.

It is highly likely we will start seeing more Yamaha engine in the near future.

The Subaru  was a fine engine, every bit as good as the Honda GX but here at least never had the dealer support. Yamaha is not well known for utility engines but they may get more aggressive with their marketing.

I have a Yamaha generator.  Not a power washer (but Yamaha does make those) and the engine seems to be high quality.  It runs very quiet and has been reliable so far... although it doesn't have a lot of hours since our power company got its act together and started trimming the trees.  I have it converted to run tri fuel, currently set up for natural gas.

Robin/Subaru bailed out the industry and was sold to Yamaha. Yamaha is now making the same engines under the Yamaha label.
