I've got a recoil start engine on a stump grinder. I'd like to add an electric start motor to it but I don't need any of the charging parts. I'll simply connect a lithium 12v jump starter battery to the starter when I want to start the engine. I'm 79 years old and it's just too hard to pull start. Do I need anything more than the starter motor itself?

Going to need at the spec number to lookup your engine. You need at least a flywheel too as some don't have a starter ring. You also should have a have of operating the starter other than hot wiring it.

Hi, I was just wondering if you ever got this going? I want to do the exact same thing to my grinder. Thanks, Scott

I was looking into this.. but it looks like the case half would need to be replaced. There is no hole in my case where the starter would go.

yes you need a different flywheel with teeth to grab the starter bendix on the starter and a new cup and a flywheel nut. Let me know how you make out.

Toms, as per your comment below on how to convert a CH440 Recoil starter to a Electric Start, is that all that is needed to do it and if so, would you know if this would apply to a CH440-3302 series?  Thank you
