Ok, that makes sense.. Being about the hottest part pf the engine, JB Weld very likely won't work. Your best bet is to have the missing part (aluminum) TIG welded putting material backwhere it's gone. That, or a new head. I don’t have the equipment to do a leak down test. I’ll do a compression test. I spent $500 on the mower. Not sure how much more money I want to throw at it. I was hoping it was something easy and restively inexpensive to fix...

mower only makes popping sounds when trying to start

I have a Craftsman push mower that only makes popping sounds when I attempt to start it.At the same time, I also noticed the carburetor emits a puff of smoke and a bit of fuel when I pull the cord.It has a new spark plug, and I checked the fuel line and carburetor and they seem to be fine.Does anyon..

Having issues posting pictures but the issue is not with the muffler, it’s with the cylinder head where the muffler mounts to the head. It’s missing metal around one of the bolt holes. Kohler Ch12.5S I believe is the model number. And no studs, bolts go through muffler and into the head..

Seems the intake is not fully closing or is out of time. Can you do a "leak down test"? A compression test too, but the leak down would be more conclusive.. ...

I did set the valves to the appropriate specs. I think it was .004 and .006. It backfires thru the intake. I tried starting fluid and it backfired...
